During a visit by Flemish minister Jo Brouns, Carmans – a pioneer in circular solutions – unveiled its latest innovations in the fight against PFAS pollution. With BlueCure and RemBind, the family business brings sustainable, efficient and scalable solutions to water and soil remediation, as part of a wider vision of circularity and ecology.
Flanders is facing a major PFAS problem: thousands of contaminated sites and real risks to drinking water, farming and the food chain. Conventional remediation techniques such as incineration and activated carbon are costly, energy-hungry and generate significant CO₂ emissions. So Carmans developed innovative alternatives that tackle the problem at its source.
BlueCure removes PFAS from water using foam fractionation: a clever technique in which PFAS molecules bind to air bubbles and are concentrated in the foam. The result:
For PFAS in soil, Carmans introduces RemBind, a powdered sorbent that locks PFAS permanently into the ground. The benefits:
"With BlueCure and RemBind, we are taking a big step towards a PFAS-free future. Our solutions are not only effective, but also sustainable and scalable for Flanders," says Stefan Carmans, CEO of Carmans.
